1. Identify the inquiry that guided your sustained investigation.
My surroundings (people, places, and things) have a great effect on me as a person. My portfolio explores how these things have impacted me. Creating these pieces has also helped me to learn things about myself, including what is important to me. The question, ‘How can I illustrate the emotions I feel toward the people, places, and things that represent me as a person?’ has led me to conclude that these are the very things that shape who I am.
2. Describe ways your sustained investigation developed through practice, experimentation, and revision.
The initial plan for my portfolio was to create works that depicted subjects using styles that I was familiar with. This primarily encompassed architecture that I found visually appealing. My first project (SI #2) is of my childhood home. This project because my inspiration for the inquiry question I came up with later on. I went on to experiment with new mediums (collage, oil pastel, mixed media, etc.) and subject matters. As I began to step out of my comfort zone, I was able to express myself more and embrace the challenge of unfamiliarity.
Score: 4
"Students create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. Portfolios include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented. [S]tudents submit portfolios for evaluation based on specific criteria, which include skillful synthesis of materials, processes, and ideas and sustained investigation through practice, experimentation, and revision, guided by questions."
